Federal Pell Grants
Federal Pell Grants are need-based federal funds awarded to eligible undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor’s or professional degree. These grants do not need to be repaid, unless the student withdraws from or stops attending school. The amount awarded each term is based on the student’s enrollment intensity. Eligible students may receive Pell Grant funds year-round, including Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant - FSEOG
This grant is awarded to Pell Grant students with the lowest Student Aid Index (SAI) and does not have to be repaid, unless the student withdraws or drops out of college. Federal funds are allotted to the College to award to students with exceptional financial need. The funds are awarded on a first come, first served basis. If the student fails to attend classes and the award drops off his/her account, the grant will be redistributed to other eligible students.
Federal Work-Study - FWS
Federal Work-Study (FWS)
The Federal Work-Study (FWS) program offers part-time employment opportunities to eligible students to help cover college expenses. When possible, these positions provide work experience related to the student’s field of study. FWS is a federally funded, need-based program. To qualify, students must be eligible for a Pell Grant.Pay rates for FWS positions are posted on the Drake State website and are subject to change. Students may work up to 19 hours per week.To apply, eligible students must complete the Work-Study Application available on the Careers page of the Drake State website. Indicating interest in FWS does not guarantee placement, as funds and positions are limited. Most job placements are on campus, with work hours typically scheduled after classes.
Hiring is competitive, and not all applicants will be placed.
